DRUM TEACHING APPROACH

Our Drum Teaching Philosophy

At Manhattan Music School, we believe that great drumming is built on three pillars:
solid technique, strong timing, and musical feel.

Proper Technique First

Good technique prevents injury, builds speed and power, and gives you control. We teach proper stick grip, stroke motion, and body mechanics from day one.

Timing & Rhythm Development

As a drummer, you ARE the time. We use metronomes, backing tracks, and play-along exercises to develop your internal clock and ability to keep rock-solid time.

Musical Feel & Dynamics

Drumming is about dynamics, phrasing, and serving the song. We teach you when to lay back, when to push forward, when to play loud, and when to show restraint.

Reading & Notation

We teach drum notation progressively, giving you the ability to read charts, learn new songs quickly, and communicate professionally.

Playing with Others

Through our band workshops, you'll develop the listening skills and musical awareness needed to be a great band member.

All our drum teachers are qualified with AMEB, Rockschool, or ANZCA accreditations.

PERFORMANCE & BAND OPPORTUNITIES

From Practice Pad to Center Stage

Learning drums leads to playing with other musicians. At Manhattan Music School, we provide multiple opportunities for drummers to perform and collaborate.

Manhattan Music Rock Show

Every year, our drummers take the stage at the Manhattan Music Rock Show as part of full bands or drum ensemble performances. The energy, pressure, and thrill of live performance builds confidence that extends beyond music.

Drum & Band Workshops

Our regular band workshops pair drummers with guitarists, bassists, singers, and other instrumentalists. Learn how to lock in with a bass player, support different song sections, read the room, and communicate with band members. This is where you become a musician, not just a drummer.
