Violin Styles We Teach

CLASSICAL & CONTEMPORARY

While the violin has deep classical roots, it's versatile across many musical genres.
At Manhattan Music School, we teach the styles that inspire you.

Classical Violin

Master the rich classical repertoire from Baroque through modern composers. Learn proper classical technique, interpretation, and performance practice. Perfect for students pursuing AMEB examinations, orchestral playing, or chamber music.

Contemporary Styles

Explore violin in folk, Celtic, bluegrass, jazz, rock, and contemporary settings. Learn improvisation, playing by ear, and how to adapt violin to modern musical contexts.

Ensemble Playing

Through our workshops, violin students learn to play with other instruments, developing the listening skills and blend needed for chamber music, orchestras, and contemporary ensembles.

Whether your goal is classical mastery or contemporary exploration, we provide the technical foundation to play any style.

VIOLIN TEACHING APPROACH

Our Violin Teaching Philosophy

At Manhattan Music School, we believe violin playing is built on proper technique, musical sensitivity, and consistent practice.
Our violin lessons develop all three simultaneously.

Technique is Everything

Violin requires precise technique more than almost any other instrument. Proper posture, bow hold, left-hand position, and intonation must be learned correctly from the beginning. We're patient and methodical, ensuring you build habits that will serve you throughout your musical life

Beautiful Tone Development

The violin can produce some of the most beautiful sounds in music – but only with proper technique. We focus on tone production from day one, teaching you how to create a warm, rich sound through proper bowing and pressure.

Musical Expression

Beyond playing the right notes, we teach phrasing, dynamics, articulation, and interpretation. The violin is an incredibly expressive instrument, and we help you discover how to make it sing.

Structured Progression

We use proven method books and carefully selected repertoire that builds skills logically. Each lesson builds on previous foundations, creating steady, measurable progress.

Performance Experience

Through our workshops and annual rock show, violin students develop confidence performing both solo and as part of ensembles.

All our violin teachers are qualified with AMEB, Rockschool, or ANZCA accreditations and bring years of teaching experience to every lesson.
