Flute Styles We Teach

At Manhattan Music School, we cover both traditional classical repertoire and modern genres. From classical masterpieces to jazz, folk, and modern ensembles, we'll provide the technical foundation to play any style. We also teach ensemble playing for students who want to collaborate with others.

Classical Flute

Master the beautiful classical repertoire from baroque through modern composers. Learn proper classical technique, interpretation, and performance practice. Perfect for students pursuing AMEB examinations or orchestral playing.

Contemporary & Popular Music

Explore flute in jazz, folk, world music, and contemporary settings. Learn improvisation, playing by ear, and how to contribute to modern musical ensembles.

Through our workshops, flute students learn to play with other instruments, developing the listening skills and blend needed for chamber music and band settings.

    FAQS

    Flute Lessons FAQs

We generally recommend starting flute around age 8 to 10, when they have the breath support and hand size needed for comfortable playing. Smaller children sometimes struggle with the reach and breath demands. That said, every child is different — get in touch and we'll advise.
