So if you are looking for playing a musical instrument for self-enjoyment or for formal music examinations, the Manhattan School Of Music is for you. Always raising the bar we encourage and challenge our students to become the best that they can. Age RequirementThe age required to learn an instrument is from 5 years old through to Adults. Children should be at least five years of age to begin Piano/Keyboard, 6 years of age or Drums, Guitar and String instruments and at least 9 years of age for brass and Woodwind instruments. Goals / AcheivementsWhether being able to learn to play a Musical Instrument as a long-life leisure skill for self enjoyment, or the enjoyment of interactig with others in a band or group situation. The Manhattan School Of Music also gives musical aspirants the opportuntiy to pursue a professional career within the industry and become Professional Musicians. Formal music examinations from recognized boards such as the Australian Music Examination Board (AMEB) or the Australian New Zealand Cultrual Arts (ANZCA) are given from preliminary until grade 8. WorkshopsDo You want to play in a band? Emphasis is placed on creativity, musical experimentation and self-development. Students have the opportunity to express themselves and gain an understanding of their contribution to te music they are performing adding to their own self-worth. Students also benefit from aquiring skills to rehearse and develop a reprtoire for being able to perform live in an ensemble/band situation. Band Workshops further teach students to be Professional and Organised, Punctual and Attentive, Respective for others and their opinions, and Comromise. Band Workshops cover all styles of music including Pop, Funk, Rhythm and Blues, Hard Rock, Heavy Metal, and Alternative/ Classical Rock. All students are whenever possible grouped into workshops with students of similar ability and age in order to maximise their learning opportunties. Band Workshops are a fantastic introduction to students who have never performed in an ensemble/band situation. Student's level of co-operation, enthusiasm, attentiveness and concentration does in fact increase. These are personal skills that will benefit the student in any task they undertake throughout their career. MasterclassMaster classes are offered throughout the year and are conducted by professionals who are working in the music industry. During each class a visiting recording / performance artist will conduct a master class/ and or concerts. These seminars give students the opportunity to listen and learn from some of this country's leading musicians. In mancy cases, students have the opporunity to play for/ or with the guest artist. These classes are available to students, teachers and prents and will vary each term. Typical topics addressed in Master classes include: What it takes to make it in Music industry, Performance Fear, Song Writing/ Compostion, Improvsations, Studio Recording ect. Agency ProgramThe Manhattan School Of Music acts as asn agency in finding work for all its students. All staff and teachers are Professionals and active within the music industry. Their experience, Knowledge and contacts help assist all students in gaining as Commercials, Live bands, Soloists, Variety Spectaculars, Television and Talent Quests ect. What to Bringll Learning aids such as textbooks, manuscript books and begginers equipment for all instruments can be purchased from the Manhattan School Of Music. Teachers will advise students and parents what to buy for their child and what is appropriate. Tuition Times
